Pilates for Golfers
Of all the professional athletes doing Pilates, golfers have adapted to it the fastest. Pilates disciples include David Duval, Annika Sorenstam and Kelli Kuehne.
Pilates exercises focus on the core of the body -- the abdominals, gluteals, pelvic muscles and lower- to
mid-back region.
Sports medicine physician and PGA Tour physician, Vijay Vad, MD, says that Pilates provides your game with a "tripod" of benefits: (1) 18 holes of stamina, (2) more power, more yards, and (3) preventing injuries. In the July/August 2006 issue of PilatesStyle magazine he explains how core endurance and strength help to prevent fatigue from setting in before the end of a round, and how Pilates increases shoulder and hip rotation which gives a golfer more power.
Pilates will help all levels of golfers from amateur to professional. In order for golfers to experience the true benefits of Pilates, they should seek properly trained instructors. At ABC Pilates we have well trained and experienced instructors that can educate and safely train clients.
Your golf pro can say, "Swing this way." But you won't be able to do that if your body can't do that, By doing Pilates, you can make corrections to your body — strengthen the core, increase flexibility, build stability in the pelvis and shoulder girdles, balance both sides of the body, which will allow you to hit it farther, straighter and more accurately.
Our objective with the 4-week Pilates for Golfers program is two-fold: (1) to condition the client by building core abdominal and back strength, improve posture, balance, and flexibility. (2) Educate the client with information and techniques that will enable the client to continue the Pilates exercises at home and on the golf course.
What is the cost? A little more than the cost of a new driver. What is value of improving your game and extending the years that you will be able to enjoy playing golf? Priceless. |
